Megaesophagus Dogs

A community for special dogs... and their families and caregivers

I have a yellow lab pup (4 1/2 mos) and we are having a tough time training him. He knows to be upright to eat, and has been thriving. He is very strong and strong willed. I know I should be happy with that, but we are at our wits end with his behaviors. He barks constantly, pulls when on leash, tries to eat anything and everything, which really scares me. Last night he ate the leftover corn cob from my son's plate that was on the counter, knocking the plate to the floor, thankfully the plate did not break. Today he ate a bunch of bananas that were also on the counter. Besides constantly crating him, (and clearing the counters) I am not sure what to do.
Even trying simple commands has been difficult. He knows sit, but that is about it. We have tried a muzzle when he is outside to prevent him from eating acorns, pine cones, sticks and stones, but he gets the muzzle off way to easily. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Mary
